Kangkang’s Journey from Connection to Confidence
In May 2022, a tiny four-month-old boy named Kangkang joined OneSky’s infant nurture program at an orphanage in China.
As he was lying in his crib, Nanny Wang, a OneSky-trained caregiver, approached him and gently picked him up. He nestled in her arms and reached out, seeking comfort as he leaned his head on her shoulder. And so began his journey of receiving nurturing love.
She fondly recalls a moment when, at six months old, Kangkang rested quietly in her arms, warm and wide awake. “In that moment, I felt the deepest, most serene loving bond between us.”
As he grew, Nanny Wang carefully designed activities to help Kangkang enjoy his successes and conquer his fears. He was scared of stairs and hills, so she started gradually with a gentle slope, positioning herself to encourage and support him. “I identify the strengths and weaknesses of each child I care for, which means I can help hone their skills and shape the way they see themselves in the world,” Nanny Wang explained.
Her patience and love helped Kangkang overcome his anxiety, allowing him to become more comfortable in new surroundings and participate with joy.
Over time, she noticed how Kangkang started trying new words with confidence and pride. His language skills grew, and he became more observant and caring of others. One day, as Nanny Wang entered the activity room, Kangkang immediately noticed a small bruise on her leg. He was the only child in the group who noticed it and asked sweetly, “What happened, Nanny?” She was touched by his empathy and explained the minor accident. Kangkang responded by climbing into her arms and gently patting her leg.
Watching Kangkang blossom has given Nanny Wang a deep sense of joy and fulfillment. She hopes that he will one day join a permanent family. “My greatest hope for him is that loving parents adopt him and nurture him in a safe, happy home. He has a big, happy life ahead of him, and with this beginning in life, I know he will thrive.”
