Our Response
- Professional caregiver training to benefit children living in welfare institutions.
- Supporting family caregivers of children left behind in rural villages.
When OneSky first began working in China over two decades ago, over a million young children were languishing in crowded orphanages with substandard care. OneSky developed an evidence-based program to train thousands of frontline child welfare caregivers to provide family-like responsive care for these children, developing secure attachments with them as well as providing age-appropriate responses and learning opportunities to meet their needs.
In 2011, the Chinese government invited OneSky to train every child welfare worker in the country. This groundbreaking partnership has transformed the standard of care and directly reached over 200,000 children in every one of China’s 31 provinces.
Today, we support children living in welfare institutions through our high-quality programs: Infant Nurture, Preschool, and “Loving Families” – foster families that provide an alternative to institutionalization for children with special needs.
Beyond welfare institutions, OneSky works in rural villages to support children left behind when their parents migrate to cities for work. We hire local mothers to train extended family and other caregivers through community-based village centers, improving the quality of care and education for vulnerable children.
