Notes from the Field
MONGOLIA | Spring 2019

Hi Susan,

You are changing Naran’s life forever!

Thank you.

We are working in a state-run nursery in Ulaanbaatar where young children like Naran are referred for care due to malnourishment, neglect, or abuse at home.

While the nursery is there to improve the physical needs of these kids, overcrowding and a lack of trained caregivers and learning materials means the children’s educational and emotional needs are not being met. That’s where we come in!

YOUR IMPACT IN 2018

20 caregivers trained

180 children reached

…in our Mongolia pilot program, covering quality care and education for your sponsored child Naran!

YOU ARE A VITAL PART OF OUR LIFE-CHANGING WORK.

HERE WE GROW!

We’re currently providing quality care and early education for 160 children in our pilot program. However, the state-run nursery is only open September through May, a typical school year. Thanks in part to support from sponsors like you, we’re keeping our programs running all summer long to provide consistent, year-round care that is key to each child’s growth and happiness. So far, 88 children and their families have signed up to participate in our summer programs.

We’re also introducing parenting classes to support local parents in encouraging their children’s full growth and to help foster a sense of community. As of now, 78 parents are enrolled to attend our Saturday series of parenting classes. Nursery staff has been very supportive of our efforts, and are providing the classrooms to us for free for the trainings!

YOU’RE HELPING ADDRESS THESE CHILDREN’S UNMET NEEDS.

The children in these nurseries are very much like institutionalized kids – except they go home every night to families. They have clearly suffered from neglect. You can see in their eyes they are somewhere else. Virginia Wilson, OneSky COO

Our work to improve the lives of vulnerable children in Mongolia wouldn’t be possible without you, Susan!

I hope you enjoyed your exclusive update about our programs serving Naran and countless children like her.

Best,
